Archery Target

Targets, called butts, come in all sizes. The regulation tournament target is a circular disc of unthreshed rye or other straw at least 4 feet (120 cm) in diameter and 6 inches (15 cm) thick. It is placed on an easel or against a mound with its center 4 feet (120 cm) from the ground. It has an oilcloth or canvas face, with concentric rings of different colors.

The center ring of the target measures 9 1/2 inches (24 cm) in diameter and is gold in color. Arrows hitting the center ring score nine points. The four surrounding circles are each 4 1/2 inches (11 cm) wide, and their colors, moving outward from the center, are red, blue, black, and white. Arrows landing in the red score seven points; in the blue, five; in the black, three; and in the white, one.
